What college is good
for.
College is a great tool if used correctly. College is a good tool for learning (for the
cost), finding what you like and dislike, and socializing. Personally as a
freshman college is a confusing tool, I assume that I am benefitting from
college but, how much can I get from it all? Everyone says that college is
“great” or “you need it to be a better person” and I do like college but, am I
going to be a different person after it?

I know that going to college is a great way to learn and get
an education that will help you later in life but, is it worth the cost? I say
that college is worth the cost most of the time. There are some careers that
you absolutely have to have a degree. For instance, I would never let someone I
just found on the street operate on me, or provide legal advice. But there are
some degrees that I don’t think that people should spend much to achieve. In College
Student Debt Grows. Is it worth it? I can see someone borrowing $10,000 a
year if majoring in a high paying degree. "But I can't see borrowing that
amount of money for a degree in art, or humanities, or sociology, because the
jobs just don't pay as well for those fields of study," he says.

Tips for minimizing student debt
- · Save before going to college
- · Apply for scholarships
- · Apply for federal loans before applying for private loans.
- · Think hard about your major. If you don’t expect your starting salary after graduation to match what you borrowed, consider a cheaper college.
- · Double major in a more lucrative field
- · Pay interest while you’re in school
As stated in Live
and Learn. We need a way to find what people are good at. We need a way to
determine if someone is good at biology or math or English or whatever! We love
to find what we are good at and pursue it, and I think that college is just
that. I feel that there is so much more
to college than just learning, but you need to pick up an education too.
Socializing is a huge thing! “My
whole life I’ve heard my parents say, “The College years are the best years of
your life,” and “You’ll meet friends of a lifetime once you start college.” So,
where are they? Where are those future classmates that I’m supposed to be
friends with? Are they part of the newspaper? The student government? The
radio?” Medina,
Irene put this a great way. I love socializing but,
who do I socialize with? Where do I find these people to socialize with besides
my classes? I know that I can join clubs but since I don’t live on campus it’s
hard to participate. How am I supposed to keep my grades up in college and be a
social butterfly? Bast,
Andrew say that people who major in
liberal arts have a bit of an advantage at this they are able to engage easier
in art, music, and politics with anyone over the people (like me) who major in
biology who can’t talk about stuff we learned in class.
All
in all I think college helps more than it hurts. College is a confusing place
but, it provides a good transition to adulthood. As long as you don’t get caught up in debt,
college is a great tool for learning, finding your likes and dislikes, and socializing.
College is just a fun place to be if you want to be there, so make the best of
it.
